MEET THE MAKER

HOW MY SILVERSMITHING STORY BEGAN…

When I was little, I had a blue pencil case with a bright yellow lion on it. It was crammed full of beads and strings, ready to make lots of brightly coloured necklaces and bracelets.  My first steps into the world of jewellery making…..

Hi, this is me!

Fast forward many years, after a career in marketing and then running my own dog walking business (Phew! never walked so much in my life) we had our two lovely children, Amelie and Alec.

 LOOKING FOR A NEW CHALLENGE…

I signed up for a one day 'Introduction to Silversmithing' course...that was it, I was hooked!  Several courses later and lots of studying, I decided this was really something I'd like to take further.

Following our move to Cornwall (husband Alex is from here), I unpacked my work bench (handmade by my dad!) in my garage workshop and I started creating jewellery, easily taking inspiration from everything around me.

And that little blue pencil case? – I’ve still got it...not sure about using the beads though!

RECYCLED SILVER, REUSED LOST GLASS....

Whilst building up my ever increasing tool collection, I had also gathered a big collection of sea glass, that I'd found and picked up on beach walks whilst out with our dog, Tegen.

I have to credit Alec, our son, for this lovely photo, otherwise I'll get told off

HAND PICKED SEA GLASS CREATED BY THE WAVES

From discarded bottles and broken glass that have been left behind and then drawn out to sea; these little glass nuggets have been tumbled by the waves over many, many years. They come in beautiful shades and are the perfect partner for silver, creating unique pieces of jewellery.  I don’t cut the sea glass to size or shape, my sea glass jewellery is purely shaped by the waves.

Ideas grew from there.....jewellery not only inspired by the Cornish sea, but also the great times we have by the sea!   As well as creating with sea glass, I love to select gemstones that also invoke this feeling.

ECO SPARKLY

My aim is to try and create jewellery whilst using as many sustainable materials from ethical and fair trade dealers as possible - from my bullion silver suppliers, gemstones, to my jewellery packaging.

This is Melody, my wonderful model sister-in-law!

(I have to thank our daughter, Amelie, for her great modelling too!)

I’m always learning new ‘green’ methods and looking for new eco materials. A wonderful example is the accredited recycled silver I source – it’s created from scrap silver taken from lots of different industries and their waste material. It’s just as sparkly and the same quality but a lot more earth friendly!
